OCOC Keynote Speaker- Autumn Adamme
I haven’t had much brain space to actually sit down and write about my trip to England (my first) to the Oxford Conference of Corsetry. I’m going to start with the local icon who also came across the pond, Autumn Adamme of Dark Garden. Her keynote speech left a lasting impression.
It was fascinating to learn more about her company beginnings and all the little details that we take for granted in the current realm of corsetry. My first corset was from Dark garden for instance and I’ve always laced up with a reverse bunny ear patterning at the waist with no idea there was any other way to do it. A technique that Autumn mentions she figured out on her own and is now commonplace. I think often in life things just become part of how things are done but it lovely to recognize and appreciate the history.
My corsetry journey is taking me to new challenges and I feel at the tip of an ice burg. A big thanks to Autumn’s inspiring speech which left me with little photos because I felt more compelled to listen wholeheartedly instead of document. I came away feeling a bit worried for myself and my business but with a fresh perspective on what the road ahead might look like. Main take away is that I need to learn more about the business aspect of my business. This is the same take away I’ve gotten from my chats with Lauren Stowell of American Duchess. Message received ladies. New business books being read & I’ve already made huge changes in how I split my time working on my business instead of just in it.
