Winter Nesting Doll
While having to focus on health and healing (read: much less historical sewing), I’ve slowly accumulated a vintage and reproduction vintage wardrobe over the past two years. It has been a fun adventure and allows for much shopping therapy. While in NYC earlier this year, right after Thanksgiving, I had the pleasure of meeting Dandy Wellington and purchasing his charming dandy face pin. I’ve been wearing it on my favorite scarf ever since.
He pinged me about a photo to share for his end of year. Since
I was prepping to visit the Legion of Honor, I took the opportunity to grab a few snapshots. I’ve never been the type to honor fashion rules and while many find it a fashion faux pas to be matchy matchy, I actually adore being matchy matchy. So in full matching glory here are two of my favorite acquisitions this year:
This was my Christmas present from my husband, a gorgeous burgundy swing coat from Collectiv: Vintage
The amazing boots are from my friend Lauren’s other shoe line, Royal vintage. As most people reading here probably know me through the costuming world, you will instead have seen me modeling for American duchess shoes which is geared to faithful historical reproductions. This other line of shoes is geared more towards reproducing vintage/retro aesthetics. These worked perfectly to keep my feet warm and cozy during the rain filled days in NYC. It took a full day before the rain finally started to sneak in from the top edges of the shoes, I was surprised as I hadn’t gotten to adding any waterproofing yet!
What you don’t see in the photos is that I’m also in a burgundy and black dress underneath. The only thing missing to make the nesting doll a reality is burgundy and black lingerie. Apparently I’m lacking burgundy and black lingerie? This is indeed something to rectify in the new year.
